REMOTE AREA FIRST AID TRAINING - HLTAID005
What is a "Remote Area” - it is a location that is more than 1 hour from available emergency services, or a medical facility. Remote areas are essentially isolated communities, workplaces or areas of interest that have limited access through transport and communication. Providing First aid in a remote location, is the immediate care given to an injured or suddenly ill person.
It does not take the place of health professionals and their medical care. It consists only of giving assistance until a more advanced level of medical care is obtained or until the chance for recovery without medical care is apparent.
Training in Remote Area First Aid needs to be considered when:
Definitive medical care may be delayed for hours or days; by a difficult location, bad weather, lack of transportation or communications. Certain injuries and illnesses are more likely due to the remoteness . Medical care beyond urban first aid is needed. First Aid supplies and equipment are limited.
