This
course applies to living,
working or travelling
in remote or isolated areas.
It is particularly
relevant
for people
working in mining, environmental
research, outdoor
recreation,
eco-tourism and many other pursuits that take
them away from populated areas.
Duration
2 Days
(14 hours) face-to-face training and assessment
Course Content
This
course provides
the participant with the
skills and knowledge
required to provide
first aid to a casualty in a remote
or isolated area.
It includes:

Preparing
for isolated travel or
work,
accounting for
expected contingencies
-
Assessing a casualty's condition to determine the
appropriate
response
-
Evaluation of options for
obtaining medical assistance and/or transporting
the casualty
-
Monitoring a casualty's condition and undertaking
ongoing first aid procedures
as required
-
Provision
of shelter from the elements and comfort
for the casualty
-
Establishing communications
and working in conjunction with medical and emergency
services support
-
Evaluation of incident management
and participation in debriefing to improve
future planning and
response.
Prerequisites
This
unit has a pre-/co-requisite
of
HLTFA301C
or HLTFA301B Apply First Aid,
with current CPR HLTCPR201B
which must be
completed prior to commencement of the course.
Participants should have
numeracy and literacy
skills equivalent to the
Australian Core Skills
Framework
Level
2.
Assessment Methods
Progressive
assessment throughout the course,
including
demonstration of practical skills and written and oral questions
relating to underpinning
knowledge.
Award
Issued
A
nationally-recognised
Statement of Attainment
will be issued to all successful participants. |
